Nutrition for the Comrades Marathon

There are few people better equipped to give nutritional advice for the Comrades Marathon than Steph Joyner. She is a Dietitian with a special interest in Sports Nutrition and will be running her 9th Comrades this year. Here are some of Steph's tips on how to manage your nutrition leading up to race day and on the big day itself.

Metabolic efficiency and the Comrades runner

Your body will generally use the calories from carbohydrates before it uses the calories from fat. You may be asking yourself whether it is possible to teach your body to use that fat as well, therefore becoming less reliant on carbohydrates. The thing is though, the calories from fat are not as easily available to us as the calories from carbs are without training your body.
